Customer service is the hallmark of Würth Elektronik eiSos; they are known for free sample supplies to developers. Since 2016, the electronics specialist has a sophisticated distribution center based in Waldenburg, Germany, that allows it to reach consumers faster and more efficiently. Due to strong sales growth in recent years, Würth decided to expand their existing warehouse in the course of a modernization project and double the capacity of the order fulfillment system.
INSTALLING A SCALABLE FULFILLMENT SYSTEM as the basis for further growth – third expansion stage has already been planned
ALL THE EXPANSIONS AND MODIFICATIONS were carried out in tight timeframe outside of business hours
BY USING MANY IDENTICAL PARTS, the Total Cost of Ownership was reduced
ALL FROM ONE SOURCE The material handling equipment used for the upgrade were supplied and implemented by TGW
THE NEW SYSTEM ALLOWS THE COMPANY TO ADAPT as order structures change and the number of orders increases
As the goods arrive at the distribution center, they are loaded onto a conveyor system in the goods receiving area – either directly in cartons or decanted into totes. After receiving, the cartons and totes are sent to a central high-performance conveyor loop that distributes the packages to picking, packaging and a shuttle warehouse.
Before the goods enter the six-aisle shuttle warehouse, they are automatically measured to allow them to be stored optimal to maximize storage capacity.
Order-picking takes place at ten goods-to-person workstations (GTP). Once totes are empty, they are sent to the empty tote buffer, where they are stacked on six lanes. Once goods are picked, they are sent to packing. Downstream of the packing area, the goods are routed to two shipping lanes.
As part of the planning process, two expansion stages were taken into account to ensure sufficient room for growth. In mirroring the existing system, all interventions and adaptations were able to be carried out in tight time windows outside business hours.
More efficient order picking, including for small order quantities, was achieved through the use of ergonomic goods-to-person workstations. This is reflected in the high level of customer orientation that distinguishes Würth Elektronik eiSos. The company's trademark is free sample supplies to developers.
Würth Elektronik eiSos, part of the Würth Group, is one of the leading manufacturers of electronic and electromechanical components in Europe. The company currently has over 7,000 employees and is active in over 40 countries around the globe selling directly to the customer. The distribution center in Waldenburg, Germany serves as a central transfer depot for this successful business division.
